Dr. Darren Schmidt
The reason Dr. Schmidt approaches healthcare the way he does comes from his experiences working on the family farm as a kid and continuing until he left for college. First, because everyone in his family were either farmers or teachers he didn't have a relative already in the medical field to sway him. There was no uncle telling him conventional western medicine was the only way to go. Second, he learned that if there was a job to be done and you couldn't get it done, it simply meant you needed to get the tools, knowledge and abilities to do it. Excuses were not acceptable. For example, if a doctor needs to cure asthma and he cannot eliminate it with medications, this means he simply does not have the tools to get rid of it completely. Dr. Schmidt found what it takes, gained the knowledge and acquired the tools to handle asthma and many other “incurable” conditions. Third, he saw how applying pesticides to plants created super-pests. He learned from his Dad that the genetically engineered crops needed to be sprayed more - because they attracted more pests. The lesson learned was that the more you veer from Mother Nature’s laws, the more you will suffer.
Dr. Schmidt wanted to become a doctor so he studied pre-med at Ohio State University. Before applying for medical school, he began to ask questions of medical students and doctors about their profession. Not one of them encouraged him to follow in their footsteps. He decided to investigate other health professions like podiatry, optometry and veterinary and ultimately he decided to attend chiropractic school. He had spent a few hours with a chiropractor in his hometown and liked the natural and wholistic approach. He graduated in the spring of 1997 from the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago. He then opened a practice in Toledo for 3 1/2 years. He moved to Ann Arbor in 2000. Dr. Schmidt is originally from Swanton, Ohio.
While in Chiropractic college, Dr. Schmidt attended nearly 50 seminars in 24 months searching for the most effective therapies to get a person well. This is when he discovered the power of nutrition. He saw the effectiveness and the huge need for good nutritional work in this country. He also looked at other doctors and saw that the best doctors had a holistic view and were using natural therapies and muscle-testing.
Currently, Dr. Schmidt is a member of the Ann Arbor Jaycees and Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce. He received the Michigan Jaycee's 2002 Outstanding Young Michigander Award. He has given over 100 lectures and workshops since 2000 to private, church, school and business groups and to the general public. He attended Toastmasters meetings for two years (1998-1999) to learn speaking skills and now attends meetings of the National Speaker’s Association. He has been in newspapers including USA Today, Chicago Tribune, The Detroit News, Toledo Commercial Advantage and Ann Arbor News. He has taped five 30-minute TV shows on community access television. He has also been on the radio for interviews; both live and pre-recorded. Dr. Schmidt now travels the country teaching Nutrition Response Testing to doctors and has taught to over 450 doctors.
Dr. Schmidt’s Health Story
During the summer of 2003, Dr. Schmidt became very fatigued. It was so bad that he found it difficult to walk up stairs. All of his muscles felt very heavy. In March of 2004, he was tested by Dr. Freddie Ulan who discovered his heart was weak due to a scar. The scar was from a birthmark that was removed surgically in 1986. It was right over the heart, causing the heart muscle to clamp down and not be able to "breathe" or take in enough blood to oxygenate the muscle. When this was discovered, Dr. Schmidt then admitted that he was having chest pain with exercise for the previous two years. Dr. Schmidt treated the scar by putting wheat germ oil a on it for three months. All of the fatigue and chest pain with exercise went away.
Fifty percent of people who have heart attacks have normal cholesterol. Dr. Schmidt believes that the scar would have been the cause for a heart attack in the future. His cholesterol and other conventional indicators have always been normal. The other causes of heart problems besides scars are discussed on the webpage "Cause of Disease".
In August of 2004, Dr. Schmidt was again tested by Dr. Ulan. The three symptoms he was concerned about were 1) muscle fatigue with exercise 2) a rash on his back 3) weakness on the left side of his torso. Upon muscle-testing, it was discovered that the rash was caused by taking a course of antibiotics for three months in 1990. Dr. Ulan discovered that the antibiotic was stuck in his spleen causing the rash, the weakness in the left torso and muscle fatigue.
Up to that time, Dr. Schmidt had been weight lifting twice a week for one year. He was only able to do 10 push-ups and 8 pull-ups before his muscles gave out. He started a chemical detoxification program to pull the antibiotic out of his body. Within eight weeks he could do 36 push-ups and 21 pull-ups! Chemical or metal toxicity runs rampant in our society causing weakness, fatigue and many other problems.
Another significant health leap occurred when Dr. Schmidt was tested by Dr. Shannon Roznay who found he had parasites. He went on a parasite cleansing program that lasted three months. Two dwarf tapeworms came out, one at 45 days and the other at 90 days. Since then, many of our patients have also had the same results due to the increased knowledge acquired by the doctors in the office regarding parasites.
Dr.Shannon Roznay
Dr. Shannon K. Roznay is a Chiropractor that also practices and teaches Nutrition Response Testing. She grew up in southern Michigan and attended Michigan State University where she received her B.S. in Physiology. She went on to attend Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri and completed her D.C. in 2002. She practiced in Denver, Colorado and Hays, Kansas before returning to Ann Arbor in 2005.
On her quest to help as many people with as many health conditions as possible she began her training in Nutrition Response Testing in early 2006. She completed her Advanced Clinical Training in Spring 2007 and has continued her training since. She has now joined Dr. Schmidt in teaching this revolutionary natural approach to healthcare to thousands of doctors and other health practitioners across the country.
Dr. Shannon's Health Story
When she was 13 years old she began experiencing depression and headaches after a water skiing injury to her neck. Her Chiropractor helped restore her health to its previous state through adjustments (and without drugs) in only a few short weeks. She decided right then that she would help others attain better health. Even at a young age, Dr. Shannon recognized the importance of a natural approach to healthcare and the avoidance of unnecessary drugs and surgery.
Dr. Lisa D'Eramo
Dr. Lisa D'Eramo is a Chiropractor and Naturopathic physician who has spent her career specializing in natural health care and wellness. While always wanting to become a doctor, she saw the limitations of western medicine in finding and treating patients as a whole. Her search for something more brought her to Chiropractic and the field of nutrition.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Cincinnati. She went on to attend the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago where she earned her second Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and her Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in 1995. Dr. Lisa has also attained certification as a Naturopathic Physician and has completed Advanced Clinical Training in Nutrition Response Testing. Additionally, Dr. Lisa has completed clinical coursework and is eligible to sit for the Certified Clinical Nutritionist examination.
Dr. Lisa currently maintains an active practice in Clarendon Hills, IL and is practicing at The Nutritional Healing Center of Ann Arbor on Fridays. Along with Chiropractic and Nutrition, she also utilizes blood chemistry, saliva testing, auriculotherapy and other modalities to attain a whole/total body approach to healing.
Dr. Lisa's Health Story
While at chiropractic school, Dr. Lisa received a mandatory vaccination for the mumps. Shortly after she started to have a problem with her blood platelets (the cells which help in clotting the blood.) As her situation worsened, she went to many medical doctors and had multiple tests along with a bone marrow biopsy to determine the cause of her problem. However, her condition was always brushed off as being from the use of aspirin a lab variable since none of the traditional medical thinking could figure out what the problem was. As a last resort, she consulted a doctor who utilized muscle testing and nutrition in his practice. He found the vaccination and chemicals in the immunization were affecting her. After utilizing nutrition for 3 weeks her platelet levels increased 25% and have continually improved over time. Dr. Lisa has had other conditions that have responded wonderfully to natural health methods.

Kerry's Health Story
Four and a half years ago Kerry came to the Nutritional Healing Center suffering with chronic back pain. Being a Pilates instructor, mother and Dance teacher the situation of being unable to move was taking its toll. She and her husband had been visiting various chiropractors and alternative healthcare providers for more than a 5 months and the pain and mobility were only slightly better.
Around the same time she first came to NHCAA the advice she received from her MD as the only solution were drugs to numb the pain until she could get an MRI done to find out more. Within a week of seeing Dr. Schmidt her symptoms had begun to noticeably improve for the first time.
Then when the Nutrition Response Testing picked up an viral immune challenge in her spine she got the results back from her MD's MRI diagnosing bone infection in her spine she knew she'd made the right decision to stick with nutrition as the real solution. Before long she was back to normal and now she feels better than ever.
